CMC teams with AVA to offer free vascular screening

Friday, December 30, 2005

MONMOUTH - Community Medical Center and the American Vascular Association will conduct a free, comprehensive screening event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 14 to detect vascular diseases, such as abdominal aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease and peripheral arterial disease.

Combined, non-cardiac vascular disease causes more death and disability in this country than most forms of cancer. Unlike many cancers though, excellent treatment options are available for most vascular diseases. However, few people are aware of the simple, non-invasive procedures widely available to detect critical vascular problems.

The tests, all of which are non-invasive, painless, and simple to administer - will include a carotid duplex ultrasound scan, an ultrasound aortic scan, and a Doppler test for PAD. Participants will have their blood pressure measured and heart rhythm recorded. Educational materials on vascular diseases and their prevention and treatment will be distributed to patients at the screenings.

Appointments are required. To sign up, call (309) 734-1503. Community Medical Center is at 1000 W. Harlem Ave.
