ALEDO - A number of holiday activities scheduled for Mercer County this weekend. Both Aledo and Viola are hosting different events.

Aledo's Holly Days are today and Saturday. Included in the Aledo celebration is the 20th Annual Mercer County Family YMCA Christmas Bazaar.

"We have 39 vendors lined up," said the Y's Leslie Sheriff. "There will be crafts, woodworking, quilted items, florals and baked goods."

The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mercer County Veterans of Foreign Wars in Aledo with proceeds benefitting various Y programs.

Also in Aledo, a local chiropractor, Dr. Glenda Foy hosts a Christmas party from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Apollo Elementary. Foy has hosted the event for 23 years.

"It's just a way of giving back to the community," Foy said. "It's great to see children's eyes light up each year." Between 300 and 400 area youngsters attend the event each year.

There also will be an electric light parade in downtown Aledo at 5:30 p.m. today.

The Viola Christmas Walk is 4 to 7 p.m. today. Activities include trolley rides from 5 to 7 p.m., and Santa at the Viola Fire Station from 5 to 7 p.m.
