WOODHULL - Retired and on a fixed income, Larry Heady Sr. now is without a home, too, after the two-story house he was buying was significantly damaged by fire.

Heady had no insurance on his personal possessions and the house was not insured.

He has lived at 257 West Third Ave. the past two years, coming to Woodhull from Alaska to be closer to children and grandchildren.

Temporarily living with his daughter, Linda Heady Pulley, her husband Paul, and their son in Woodhull, he hopes to repair the home and live there again.

Some donations of clothing and necessary items have been made, but the senior Heady says he doesn't have storage for a lot of things.

"What concerns me about that is if I get buried in more than I need, but it's nice people want to share," he admitted.

The fire was caused by a candle, though it was on a stand in a safe jar, Heady thought.

He momentarily left the house to help a grandson with his car and forgot about the burning candle. Heady thinks a gust of wind through an open window might have upset the small table on which the candle was sitting.

Monetary donations can be made to Heady at Wells Fargo Bank in Woodhull as well as Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois, Woodhull branch.

Donations would help Heady make repairs to the house and buy necessary materials. He plans to do the repairs himself.
