Two Democrats in running for state's attorney

ALEDO - Mercer County will feature at least one primary contest next year. Mercer County incumbent State's Attorney Greg McHugh will see a challenger in the Democratic primary.McHugh, from Viola, is seeking his third term in office. He was first elected state's attorney in November 2000. Before that, he served eight years as Mercer County Public Defender.
McHugh is being challenged by Daniel Dalton, also of Viola. Dalton has a private practice in Rock Island. He is a 1989 graduate of Sherrard High School and received his law degree from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
The primary is Feb. 5.
No Republican candidate has yet announced for the state's attorney position in Mercer County.
