Couple arrested on arson charges

ALEDO - A Mercer County couple has been arrested on suspicion of arson and obstructing justice charges.

Lindella Hassa, 30, and Clement Hassa, 35, were taken into custody Monday by Mercer County Sheriff's Deputies. The two are accused in a Labor Day blaze that destroyed their Matherville home.

The house was located at the corner of 2nd and Main streets. Firefighters from Matherville, Sherrard and Viola were called to the scene at about 6 a.m. Sept. 3. The blaze was under control in one hour. No one was injured.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office assisted the Mercer County Sheriff's Department with the investigation. The couple is being held in the Mercer County Jail awaiting their initial court appearance.
