Robert T. Brooks
Monday, September 18, 2006MONMOUTH - Robert T. Brooks, 72, 1202 Lincoln Road, died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 17, 2006) in Monmouth Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 21, 1933, in Monmouth, the son of Leland and Mae Snell Brooks.
He married Kay L. Anderson on Oct. 15, 1955, in Monmouth.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Lora K. Jorgensen, Bloomington; two sons, Michael L. Brooks, Monmouth, and Richard T. Brooks, Galesburg; two brothers, George Jr. (and Beverly) Brooks, Monmouth, and Wendell (and Janet) Brooks, Kirkwood; an aunt, Elizabeth James, Monmouth; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.
He was reared on the farm in rural Roseville and graduated from Roseville High School in 1951.
He served in the Army during the Korean War at Fort Sill, Okla., and White Sands Training Center, White Sands, Ariz.
He was a service technician and salesman for A.O. Smith Harvestore. He worked in sales for Huskee Built in Monmouth and in grounds and maintenance at Warren Achievement in Monmouth. He also owned and operated Northern Insulators.
He was a long-time member of First Christian Church, Monmouth, and Heritage United Presbyterian Church. He was a life member of Masonic Lodge 37 AF and AM and Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 American Legion, both in Monmouth. He was a member of Illinois Council and Royal Arch of the Masons.
He enjoyed collecting, going to auctions, mushrooming and liked to tinker and repair.
Cremation was accorded. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Heritage United Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. John Irwin and James Epperson officiating. Masonic service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Turnbull Funeral Home; the family will receive friends after.
