GALESBURG - Hy-Vee is conducting its annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation fund-raising campaign this month in an effort to help find a cure for diabetes.

Last year, Hy-Vee raised more than $1.1 million nationally for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. The company hopes to raise even more money this year.

"Hy-Vee is proud to continue our part in the search for a cure for juvenile diabetes - a disease that affects millions of Americans youth," said Lisa Hoppman, Hy-Vee store director. "Galesburg and surrounding communities have been instrumental in meeting or exceeding the goals of our previous efforts and we hope they will make this year's event even more successful."

During September and October, Hy-Vee stores across the nation will ask customers to help raise money to continue juvenile diabetes research.

Hy-Vee has supported JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, one of the organization's largest fund-raising events, since 1998. In the past decade, Hy-Vee has organized walk teams, raffles, wine tastings, auctions and other fund-raisers to help the effort.

JDRF anticipates raising more than $90 million this year through 180 of the walks that will take place across the globe.

For more information about juvenile diabetes, visit the JDRF Web site - www.jdrf.org - or call (800) 533-CURE (2873).

The two walks nearest to Galesburg are Sunday at Glen Oak Park in Peoria - check-in time is 11:30 a.m.; and Feb. 24, 2007, in Westdale Mall, Cedar Rapids, Iowa - check-in time is 8:30 a.m. A complete list of the walks is available on the JDRF Web site.
