GLADSTONE - John Frank Torrance, 76, Gladstone, died Sunday (Aug. 6, 2006) from injuries he received when a farm utility vehicle rolled over near Gladstone.

He was born Sept. 7, 1929, near Sciota, the son of Ervin Henry and Josie Aileen Guy Torrance.

He married Helen Jane Russell on March 21, 1953, in Terre Haute.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, Ervin (and Angie) Torrance and Michael Torrance, both of Gladstone, and Russell (and Connie Sue) Torrance and Mark (and Leanne) Torrance, both of Biggsville; a daughter, Jane Torrance, Normal; three sisters, Alice Paulsgrove, Indianapolis, Grace (and Jesse) Bond, Macomb, and Jennie Anderson, Avon; two brothers, Ralph (and Marilyn) Torrance, Terre Haute, and George (and Reta) Torrance, Gladstone; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He attended rural schools near Raritan and graduated from Media High School in 1947.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War.

He was a grain farmer for 53 years.

He was drainage commissioner for Henderson District 1 for 38 years. He was founder, past president and member of Gladstone Lions Club.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday in Gladstone Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carol Stuffelbeam officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Turnbull Funeral Home, Oquawka. Burial will be in Raritan Cemetery.

A memorial fund is being established.
