United Way closer to goal

Saturday, July 23, 2005

GALESBURG - The Knox County United Way recently received $65,000 from an anonymous donor.

"This is an astounding gift," said Pat Nusbaum, United Way Board of Directors president. "The magnitude of this gift tells us that the work of the United Way continues to touch lives."

The donation came after a news conference announcing that United Way had fallen short of its fall campaign goal by $125,000, which would have resulted in a 50 percent funding cut for its partner programs.

After the money was added to the 2004/2005 campaign, it brought the total to $485,000. The money will be distributed during July and August to help with the shortfall.

United Way provides programs for disaster relief, food, shelter, counseling, transportation, childcare and education.
