Wednesday, July 6, 2005GALESBURG - Joyce C. Clay, 76, 426 N. Academy St., died at 5:43 a.m. Tuesday (July 5, 2005) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Galesburg, the daughter of James "Bill" and Betty Van Etten Durbin.
She married John Clay on Aug. 15, 1947, in Tampico. He died June 17, 1999.
Surviving are three sons, John M. Clay, Galesburg, Daniel N. Clay, Sacramento, Calif., and Joseph L. (and Donna) Clay, Fort Worth, Texas; six daughters, Judith A. (and Alan) Rhoades, Theresa C. Clay and Jean M. (and David) Riley, all of Galesburg, Mary L. (and Donald W. ) Smith, Kewanee, Melinda S. Clay, Chicago, and Christine J. (and Bob) Hennenfent, Wataga; two brothers, James D. Durbin of Florida, and Gary V. Durbin, Glendora, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1947.
She was employed as a clerk at Dave's Book Store for two years and worked as a receptionist at APTS Inc. for two years.
She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Cremation was accorded. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Watson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
