GALESBURG - The Knox County Housing Authority Board of Directors talked Tuesday about a new satellite dish policy that would limit residents of family housing to one dish. Direct TV subscribers need a second dish to receive local channels."This may seem a little trivial," KCHA Executive Director Don Tomlin said, "but it is a very hot issue."
Tomlin said his concern is that the appearance of the buildings will suffer if there are too many satellite dishes.
The board will consider the issue and is likely to act on it next month.
In other business:
- The board discussed adding a provision in its bylaws that would disqualify a member if he or she missed three consecutive meetings or six in a calendar year and if those absences were unexcused.
The issue came up because board member Constant Johnson has missed a number of meetings because of poor health and the other four board members say they need to have a fifth active member. Attorney Roger Williamson said he has been in contact with Johnson's family and Johnson has moved out of state because of his health.
"He no longer qualifies as a resident," Williamson said.
He added that because the Knox County Board makes the appointments to the board, all the KCHA board needs to do is notify the County Board of the situation and ask that a new member be appointed.
- The board had it annual reorganization meeting. Lomac Payton was elected chairman; Roger Peterson is the vice chairman.
