12 road deaths during Memorial Day weekend

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois State Police said 12 people were killed as a result of 12 fatal crashes on Illinois roadways during the Memorial Day weekend.

During the enforcement period of May 25-28, troopers issued over 18,500 citations and written warnings, arrested 180 individuals for DUI, and provided assistance to more than 1,400 motorists.

The ISP participated in numerous enforcement initiatives aimed to reduce fatalities.

during the holiday weekend, including details focused on seat belt enforcement, speed enforcement, roadside safety checks, and underage drinking.
