Adult entertainment ordinance on agenda
Friday, June 8, 2007
ALEDO - How to regulate adult entertainment is being reviewed in Mercer County and any ordinance would likely include a public hearing. The issue is being discussed by the Mercer County Board and some believe rules and regulations need to be in place if someone wants to locate a strip club in the county, especially if they want to serve liquor."When it comes to adult entertainment, we need input from everybody and every angle," said Mercer County Board Chairman Tom Harris of Matherville. "We really haven't had an adult entertainment ordinance in effect, in fact we don't have one."
But the subject has been talked about off and on for about the last year. Although it would be difficult to stop such a business from opening, the county can place restrictions on the establishments.
"This will probably be done in two phases," Harris said. "We'll probably make some adjustments in our liquor ordinance. The second phase will be looking specifically at that type of entertainment and more comprehensive than what we have in our liquor ordinance."
The ordinance should be in place by late summer or early fall.
"I just thinks it's something we really need to have in place," Harris said.
