GALESBURG - The body of Petty Officer 1st Class Gary T. Rovinski is expected to return to the United States today.

Rovinski, 44, of rural Roseville, was killed Monday in a roadside bomb explosion in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was a Navy Reservist serving with the Seabees of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 25 out of Fort McCoy, Wis. A Pennsylvania native, Rovinski was a corrections officer at Henry Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg and father of two daughters, ages 13 and 10.

Details of Rovinski's arrival in western Illinois have not yet been confirmed. Rovinski's body may arrive at Dover Air Force Base today and is expected to be flown later to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, then escorted by the Illinois State Police and members of the Patriot Guard Riders to Hinchcliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home, 1070 W. Fremont St., Galesburg.

Rovinski's wife, Jen, has requested the motorcade travel past Henry Hill Correctional Center, the family's home in rural Roseville and the family's church, Immanuel Baptist Church in Monmouth.

The processional route will continue to Monmouth College, where Rovinski was associate dean of students and director of residence life from 1997 to 1999. A brief service will be held at the college before the body is escorted to the funeral home in Galesburg.

The date, times and exact route of the processional are being determined and will be published in a future edition of The Register-Mail.

Tentative funeral arrangements have been made, which will be confirmed once the funeral home has received official notification of when Rovinski's body will arrive in western Illinois, according to Brad Collier of Hinchcliff-Pearson-West.

Visitation is tentatively scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church, 1196 N. Academy St., with family members present from 5 to 8 p.m.

The funeral is tentatively set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roseville Cemetery.

According to Dave Greenlief, members of the Illinois Army National Guard Family Readiness Group will begin placing flags around Monmouth and Roseville Saturday morning. The group encourages residents to display flags and ribbons at their homes and along the processional route.
