Abingdon HS announces top 10 seniors

ABINGDON - Abingdon High School has announced the Top 10 students in the Class of 2007. They are, in numerical order:

Elisabeth Lindsey

Hometown: Abingdon

Parents' names and town of residence: Bill Lindsey Jr., Galesburg, and Donna Lindsey, Abingdon

Scholastic achievements: Valedictorian, Presidential Classroom Alumni, high honor roll (4 years).

Extracurricular activities: Senior class vice president, Students Offering Assistance to Readers (SOAR), sophomore class treasurer, Hugh O'Brien Youth leadership program, Commando Club tutor, band (2 years), Spanish Club (3 years), Art Club (2 years), Scholastic Bowl (4 years), volleyball (3 years), assistant editor of Reconnaissance Magazine (1 year).

Plans: Attend the University of Alabama, Birmingham, Ala., and major in biology. From there, I aspire to attend medical school to become either an anesthesiology or cardiologist.

Mitchell Malone

Hometown: Abingdon

Parents' names and town of residence: Rich and Jerri Lynn Malone of Abingdon

Scholastic achievements: Illinois State Scholar, National Honor Society, Peoria Journal Star Scholar Athlete, Prairieland Conference Scholar Athlete, West Prairie Trail Scholar Athlete, high honor roll.

Extracurricular activities: Basketball, football, baseball, student council president.

Plans: Attend Illinois Wesleyan University and major in accounting.

Heather Hutson

Hometown: Abingdon

Parents' names and town of residence: Raymond Hutson and Robin Hutson, Abingdon

Scholastic achievements: National Society of High School Scholars, Who's Who Among American High School Students, high honors (4 years), Simms Memorial Writing Scholarship (junior year), Lorado Taft Art Scholarship (spring 2007).

Extracurricular activities: Student Council treasurer, National Honor Society secretary, Arts Club vice president, Home Ec Club vice president, Superintendent Cabinet member, Peer Tutor and Mentor, junior class treasurer.

Plans: Attend Monmouth College and major in art education.

Jan Renee Douglass

Hometown: Abingdon

Parents' names and town of residence: Patty and Danny Boone, Abingdon, and Robert Douglass, Moline

Scholastic achievements: National Honor Society, Prairieland Conference Scholar, high honors.

Extracurricular activities: Volleyball, basketball, softball, Spanish Club, Home Ec Club, choir, journalism.

Plans: Attend either Augustana College or University of Illinois, undecided major.

Dustin Miner

Hometown: Abingdon

Parents' names and town of residence: Diana Miner, Abingdon, and Donni Miner, Galesburg

Scholastic achievements: Prairieland Scholar Athlete, high honors.

Extracurricular activities: Baseball, freshman-junior years.

Plans: Attend Carl Sandburg College for one year and then transfer to a four-year school, field of study - criminal justice.

Mindy McCallister

Hometown: Abingdon

Parents' names and town of residence: Bill McCallister and Lora McCallister, both of Abingdon

Scholastic achievements: National Honor Society, Prairieland Scholar Athlete, Daughters of the American Revolution Citizenship Award, 4.04 grade-point average, ACT score of 25.

Extracurricular activities: National Honor Society president, basketball, volleyball, softball, Home Ec Club, Spanish Club, Tatler staff.

Plans: attend Carl Sandburg College for 1 1/2 years to achieve associate's degree in science and transfer to Illinois State University for bachelor's degree in business administration. I plan to work with advertisement.

Sam Mangieri III

Hometown: Abingdon

Parents' names and town of residence: Sam Mangieri Jr. and Peggy Mangieri, of Abingdon

Scholastic achievements: National Honor Society, 2007 Prairieland Scholar Athlete, Academic Letter, high honor roll.

Extracurricular activities: National Honor Society vice president, student council, yearbook staff, varsity baseball.

Plans: Attend Bradley University and major in the field of communications. I would like to do some sort of internship within my first year and helpfully someday own my own business.

Kelsey DeJaynes

Hometown: Abingdon

Parents' names and town of residence: Danny and Ronda DeJaynes

Scholastic achievements: Who's Who Among American High School Students, Scholar Athlete award, 3.89 grade-point average, high honor roll all four years.

Extracurricular activities: Home Ec Club, student mentor, basketball cheerleading.

Plans: Attend Western Illinois University and major in pre-physical therapy.

Kayla Norman

Hometown: Abingdon

Parents' names and town of residence: Chris and Terri Norman, Abingdon

Scholastic achievements: Scholar Athlete, Who's Who Among American High School Students, 3.89 grade-point average, high honors all eight semesters.

Plans: Attend Illinois Central College and be in the radiology program through OSF.

Courtney DeJaynes

Hometown: Abingdon
