Benefits for man with lung cancer
Wednesday, May 16, 2007GALVA - Two benefits have been planned for Robert Peed Sr. of Galva, who was diagnosed with lung cancer last November.
Peed has worked for the Stark County Sheriff's Department for the past six years. He is not working because of his cancer treatment.
He has lived in Galva for 28 years and is the father of two sons, Rob and Curtis, both of Galva.
A benefit ride/drive has been set for Saturday. Cost is $10 per person. Sign-in is from 11 a.m. to noon at Spoon River Bowl in Wyoming. Finish is at Toulon Tap. The last bike should finish the route by 6 p.m.
A meal will be served from 6 to 11 p.m. the day of the ride/drive. Cost is $4 per plate. Timmy's DJ will deejay the event. For more information, call 222-0845.
A benefit dance/meal will be May 26 at the Eagle's Club in Kewanee. Music will be provided by the band Inside Out.
The meal, served from 4 to 6:30 p.m., will include a pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, chips, dessert and coffee or lemonade. Hot dogs will be available for children. Cost is $5 for adults and $2 for children 5 and younger.
An auction will be conducted from 7 to 9 p.m. and there will be raffles throughout the night. A raffle for two and a half hogs will be held after the meal.
