GALESBURG - The Galesburg City Council on Monday approved two bids by Gunther Construction for street work in the city.First, the council approved using $205,000 for resurfacing Fremont Street from Henderson Street to 830 feet west of Hawkinson Avenue. Gunther bid $198,201 to do the work, but City Manager Gary Goddard said the additional money gives the city contingency funds.
Gunther's bid of $124,217 to overlay West Street from Main Street north to the BNSF tracks and Grove Street from Chambers to Pearl streets also was approved. In both instances, Gunther was the sole bidder and the bid was more than the city had budgeted for the work. After discussions with the contractor, the price for both projects was reduced.
