United Way director resigns

Bradford's departure leaves board searching

Tuesday, April 25, 2006

GALESBURG - The United Way of Knox County is searching for a new leader.

Kristyne Bradford submitted her resignation as executive director of the organization Friday.

Karrie Heartlein, president of the United Way's board of directors, said she could not comment on Bradford's resignation, saying it was a personnel matter.

"There's nothing I can comment on other than that she has resigned," said Heartlein in a phone interview Monday.

In a news release today announcing Bradford's resignation, Heartlein said the board of directors will move swiftly to find a new executive director.

"We hope to have a new executive director in place by the time our campaign kicks off this fall," said Heartlein. "The United Way is a critical community resource and we will move quickly to ensure that our partner programs continue to receive the support they need."

Bradford was hired as the United Way of Knox County's executive director in January 2002. Before heading the United Way, Bradford served as the marketing coordinator for the Downtown Galesburg Council and Merchants.

The United Way of Knox County provides funding for 39 human service programs provided by 24 partner agencies. The programs funded - which provide information and referral service for Knox County residents - include emergency shelter, food, disaster and crisis services, counseling, childcare and adult literacy.

Attempts to reach Bradford for comment were unsuccessful.
