Helen L. Newberry

MONMOUTH - Helen L. Newberry, 76, Monmouth, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday (April 22, 2006) in the Monmouth Nursing Home.

She was born April 23, 1929, in Galesburg, the daughter of Albert Foster and Millie Ruth Britt Stemp.

She married Lester "Les" Newberry on June 12, 1947, in Coldbrook.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Michael (and Jane) Newberry, Monmouth, and Bradley (and Patricia) Newberry, Glendale, Ariz.; a sister, Betty (and Earl) Edgar, Galesburg; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

She was reared and educated in Monmouth, where she attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School.

She worked as a waitress at Grimsley's Cafe, then at Hawcock's Cafe, and then at Wallace's Grill, all in Monmouth.

She was a member of First Christian Church of Monmouth. She was active in the Community Medical Center Auxiliary, and volunteered with the Red Cross Bloodmobile.

She loved to do crossword puzzles.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. James Epperson officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday and Wednesday at Turnbull Funeral Home, where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Monmouth Nursing Home.
