Council OKs sites use

GALESBURG - In other business, the Galesburg City Council on Monday:- Approved a request to remove bus zone parking restrictions on Main Street in front of The Little King Coffee Shop & Deli.
- Approved the purchase of property at 102 N. Elm St.
- Approved the use of Lake Storey by AFSCME Local 1274 for a softball tournament Sept. 10 and 11.
- Approved the use of Standish Park by the Galesburg Civic Art Center for Art in the Park on July 16
- Approved the use of Park Plaza by the Galesburg Civic Art Center for sidewalk painting during Sandburg Days in May.
- Approved the use of Lake Storey Beach by the Knox College Senior Class for a concert June 1.
- Approved the use of Lake Storey Park by The Great Balloon Race on July 29-31.
- Approved having a city auction this summer on a date to be set.
- Considered a request to modify zoning requirements to allow the Knox County Area Project to continue to rent space from the Galesburg Veterans of Foreign Wars, but took no action.
- Approved a three-year contract agreement with J&M Displays to provide fireworks for the "Nite Lites and Kites" show at Lake Storey during the annual kite festival.
- Upheld the Overall Code Review Commission decision regarding a garage at 223 Lake St. The owner asked for a variance to the code because the garage was built with an inadequate base.
- Approved a request from Bruner, Cooper and Zuck Inc. on behalf of Knox College to replace a brick sidewalk.
- Approve a request from Cal Ripken Youth Baseball to be allowed to install batting cages at Voyles Field.
- Approved a request from the Galesburg Railroad Museum to be allowed to place a caboose and box car in Colton Park.
