Alcorn presents seminar on law
GALESBURG - Daniel S. Alcorn, attorney with the Galesburg firm of Stoerzbach Morrison P.C., presented a seminar to Chamber of Commerce members here on recent legislative changes to Illinois employment laws. The seminar was at the Galesburg Public Library.

"Many of the recent changes in law will require revisions to businesses' policies and employee handbooks," said Alcorn. "For example, several new leave entitlements will require amendments to policies regarding employee leave."

Alcorn spoke to seminar participants on amendments to the Illinois Human Rights Act, the Illinois Family Medical Leave Act, the Employee Blood Donation Leave Act, the Prevailing Wage Act and the Workers Compensation Act, among others.

The seminar was one of many sponsored by the Galesburg Chamber throughout the year to provide businesses with information vital to their continued growth.

Alcorn has been in practice with Stoerzbach Morrison P.C. since 1996, and focuses his practice on labor and employment law. For more information, call 341-6000 or visit the firm's Web site, www.galesburglaw.com.

RCM recognizes Media couple's work
ROSEVILLE - Roseville Country Manor honored Ed and Betty Slusher with the Biggest Project award at RCM's annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet April 6.

The Slushers of Media refinished 82 nightstands for RCM. Betty, a long-time volunteer, noticed that the wooden nightstands in the residents' rooms had become very worn looking. They were heavy wooden pieces of furniture but were badly in need of attention. She asked her husband Ed if he would try refinishing one. An agreement was worked out to take one or two at a time home to his shop to strip, sand and refinish each nightstand. The facility bought new hardware for the furniture and provided the materials used in the refinishing process.

Working together, the Slushers put a lot of time and energy into the project, resulting in new-looking nightstands.
