Dogs from across the midwest compete in local event

Monmouth - Dogs competed Saturday and Sunday in a two-day dog pulling event sponsored by the Prairieland Pullers and sanctioned by the United Pulling Federation.

The dog that pulled the most weight Sunday was Neeko, a 134-pound St. Bernard who pulled 4,280 pounds. Neeko's owner is Kelly Swenson of New Richmond, Wis.

Diggs, an American pit bull terrier, pulled the most weight per pound Sunday. The 45-pound dog pulled 2,670 pounds - 59.3 times his body weight. Diggs' handler is Nicole Djordjevich of Hobart, Ind.

Thirty-seven dogs competed Sunday and 41 competed Saturday at the event.
