Streaks' weekend starts with Quincy at home

What's happening?The Galesburg High School boys basketball team will host Western Big 6 opponent Quincy on Friday, then travel to Peoria on Saturday to play the Peoria Sectional's third seed, Peoria Notre Dame.

Last week: The Silver Streaks' slim hope at a share of the conference title was ended with a lackluster 55-48 loss at Moline. Galesburg fell to 11-11, 4-4 in the WB6.

Also last week: The Streaks were voted the Peoria Sectional's 11th seed and will play eighth-seeded Peoria Manual on Feb. 28 in the semifinals of the Galesburg Regional. Top-seeded Washington is also in the regional.

On Jan. 23 at Quincy: Galesburg fell behind by 19 points in the third quarter, cut the lead to two late in the fourth quarter, but lost 66-62. John Peters led Galesburg with 23 points. Matt Bush had 21 for Quincy. After their 54-43 win over United Township last Friday, Quincy is on top of the WB6 with a 7-1 record, 17-4 overall. They can clinch a share of the WB6 title with a win.

On Saturday at Peoria: The Streaks take on a Peoria Notre Dame team with a 17-5 record. The Fighting Irish are led by senior forward Josh Edmonds. Last season, Edmonds had 24 points to lead PND to an 83-79 win at Galesburg.

No streaking: Galesburg hasn't won or lost more than three straight games this season. The Streaks have one three-game winning streak and one three-game losing streak.

Statistically: Galesburg is led in scoring by senior John Peters with 16.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Senior Michael McGruder is second in scoring at 9.5 ppg and Robbie Hinkle is third at 9.3 ppg. Tyler Lingwall is Galesburg's leading scorer off the bench at 5.8 ppg.
