William Floyd 'Bill' Brown Jr.
Tuesday, February 12, 2008GALESBURG - William Floyd "Bill" Brown Jr., 74, 260 Allens Ave., died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 10, 2008) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born May 11, 1933, in Meadville, Mo., the son of William Floyd Sr. and Opal Webb Brown. He married Melba R. Buzbee on July 1, 1955, in Atlanta, Texas. She died Sept. 4, 2000.
He is survived by two sons, Mark (Ruth Ann) Brown of Abingdon and Robert (Sarah) Brown of Galesburg; three daughters, Linda Carlene (Dennis) Rice of East Galesburg, Darla Brown of Galesburg and Debbie Seiboldt of Victoria; 11 grandchildren, Tonya English, Cea Anne Brown, Lisa Diarra, Jennifer Rice, Raymond Levey, John Gibbs, Nikki Critser, Jacob Gray, George Brown and Arleta Brown; and four great-grandchildren, Addison English, Erin English, Kadie English and Madalyn Diarra. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister and one granddaughter, Cherish Faye Gray.
He served in the Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base during the Korean conflict.
He worked as a union carpenter for 10 years. He owned and operated Browns Tree Service for 40 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge. He was a former member of General Baptist Church of Abingdon. He graduated from high school in Missouri. He has lived in the Galesburg area since 1966.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Lee Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
