Wise to attend nutrition institute

KNOXVILLE - Teresa Wise, Knoxville, has been selected to attend the National Center for Nutrition Leadership Institute. This inaugural meeting is an intensive, hands-on leadership credentialing program developed in collaboration with a major leadership training university, Nestle' University. The training will include formal classroom instruction and will be integrated with on-site practicum in community. The ultimate goal is to put an end to senior hunger in America.

Wise is a certified dietary manager and a certified food protection professional. She is a graduate of Illinois Central College, East Peoria, and Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, Fennimore, Wis. She is past president of Central Illinois Dietary Managers' Association, a contributor to Dietary Managers' Magazine, and served on the board of directors for Illinois School Nutrition Association.

She is the daughter of Paul and Charlotte Lear, and the wife of Jay Wise, all of Knoxville.

Schultz a finalist for sales award

WOODHULL - Charity Schultz, Woodhull native and employee of Regent Broadcasting of Peoria, is a finalist for a Radio Ink magazine Radio Wayne Award.

Schultz will compete with nine others in the Sales Manager of the Year category. Schultz, of LaFayette, began her career in the radio industry seven years ago. With a promotion to Local Sales Manager in February 2005, Schultz has led the Regent Peoria Radio sales force to tremendous revenue gains over prior years.

She is the daughter of Ed and Karen Schultz and Sue Schultz, all of Alpha.

Regent Broadcasting owns radio stations WGLO-FM, WFYR-FM, WIXO-FM, WZPW-FM and WVEL-AM in Peoria.

G and M's Bernett wins Gallo award

GALESBURG - Brent Bernett, liquor and wine sales manager at G and M Distributors, was recently named a winner of the E and J Gallo Winery's E and J Brandy Conway Cup. The contest, open to all Gallo wholesalers throughout the U.S., was held September through December 2006, with the winners determined based on increased sales percentage. For his achievement, Bernett was presented with an expense-paid trip to the NCAA Men's Final four basketball tournament in Atlanta. Bernett has worked for G and M since 1987 and has been sales manager since 1998.

McClurg to offer private drum lessons

GALESBURG - Drummer, performer and teacher, Chuck McClurg, will offer private lessons once a week at Moon Dog Drum House, 33 and 41 S. Cherry St. Lessons are available for the beginners to the advanced who want to be better disciplined. McClurg, who has 40 years of experience, will teach reading skills, hand and foot coordination, soloing, double bass technique, how to keep solid time and playing with a band. The husband of former congressional candidate Andrea Zinga and the former owner of his own drum shop in Galesburg, McClurg says he can help drummers in big band, swing, rock, jazz, country, Latin and R and B. Hepner named OSF employee of year

GALESBURG - Becky Hepner, Wataga, an employee in the surgical department, has been selected 2006 Employee of the Year at OSF St. Mary Medical Center. Hepner was selected for the honor by her peers. Hepner has been an employee at St. Mary's since November 1998. She received $500 and a dozen roses in recognition of her achievement.

Karlin certified family law mediator

GALESBURG - Attorney Jeremy Karlin, shareholder with the Galesburg law firm of Stoerzbach Morrison P.C., has received certification as a mediator in family law cases in the Ninth Judicial Circuit, which includes Knox, Warren, Fulton, McDonough, Hancock and Henderson counties.

Karlin earned the certification after his successful completion of mandatory training, The 40-hour training was offered by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Clinic through the Southern Illinois University Law School. Family law mediation is an option available to families during or after divorce or separation, or in disputes over child custody issues or financial settlements. The use of a trained mediator, a neutral party representing neither client, often results in less court time and attorney fees.
