ABINGDON - Viola Simpson, 79, of Oquawka and formerly of Abingdon, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2008) at her home in Oquawka.
She was born May 31, 1928, in Blue Earth, Minn., to Homer and Sarah "Sadie" Miller Morse. She married Merle Eugene "Gene" Simpson on Oct. 5, 1947, in Abingdon. He survives.
Viola also is survived by her children, Barbara (and Irvin) Benge of Bushnell, Randy Simpson of Oquawka, Danny (and Patricia) Simpson of Dahinda, Richard (and Sandra) Simpson of Kirkwood, and Donald (Vili) Simpson of Port Orchard, Wash.; her brothers, Melvin Morse of Monroe, Wash., and Leland Morse of Cambridge; her sisters, Colleen Hillyer of Galesburg, Lucille Tinkham of Abingdon, and Anna May Hayes of Havana; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, three sisters and two brothers.
Viola had lived in Oquawka since 1979 and prior to that lived in Abingdon. She had worked at Blue Bell Manufacturing in Abingdon and later for Rowe Manufacturing in Galesburg. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and doing embroidery and going to yard sales. She was of Christian faith.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. The Rev. Danny E. Hunt will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery.
