Evelyn L. LaMaster
Tuesday, February 5, 2008ALEXIS - Evelyn L. LaMaster, 83, of Alexis, formerly of the Bishop Hill area, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 3, 2008) at Heartland Health Care, Galesburg.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. The Rev. Judy Vidakovich will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bishop Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Alexis-North Henderson Ambulance Service.
Evelyn was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Warren County, the daughter of Arnold "Johnny" and Helen (Massingill) Gillette. She married Floyd A. LaMaster on May 8, 1943, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1988. She is survived by two daughters, Diana LaMaster of Alexis and Carol (Harry) Wallace of Woodland Park, Colo.; a foster daughter, Mary (Carl) Smith of Geneseo; three grandchildren, Denise (Justin) Minks, Janelle Saar and Ginger (Rodney) Byers; four foster grandchildren, Brian (Sandy) Smith, Debbie (Ken) Clemmons, Theresa (Gerald) Anthony and Patty (Mike) Rusk; four great-grandchildren; 10 foster great-grandchildren; and two foster great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Evelyn graduated from Avon High School. She had been a bookkeeper for Bergren Hardware in Bishop Hill and the Galva Creamery. She, along with her husband, operated the Elf Tree Farm. She also enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a member of Bishop Hill Methodist Church, a sponsor of the youth group and member of the Women's Club at church and was also the church treasurer. She belonged to the Henry County Home Extension and was a 4-H Leader for the Bishop Hill Busy Bees. Her hobbies included quilting, reading, gardening and cooking.
