Hazel M. John 1914-2008 Tuesday, February 5, 2008 GALESBURG - Hazel M. John, 93, Galesburg, formerly of Avon, died at 8:18 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 2, 2008) at Seminary Manor, Galesburg. She was born Oct. 3, 1914, in Kingsbury, Ind., the daughter of Henry and Cora Lewis Arndt. She married Herman V. Semande and then later married Gwendel John.She is survived by three daughters, Gloria June (John) Williamson of Avon, Rose (Arlen) Walters of Sparta, Ill., and Sharon (Glen) Carnes of Galesburg; two sons, Herman V. Semande Jr. of London Mills and Charles H. (Joan) Semande of Knoxville; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one son, four sisters and three brothers. She was raised in Detroit, Mich., and moved to the Avon community area in 1948, then moving to Galesburg in 1966 where she has lived since. She was an avid Cubs fan. She will be sorrowfully missed by her family. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Corman Memorial Home, Avon. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Corman Memorial Home, Avon. Burial will be in Babbitt Cemetery, St. Augustine. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.
