Melba G. Stambaugh

ST. AUGUSTINE - Melba G. Stambaugh, 80, 210 Washington St., died at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2008) at the OSF St. Mary Medical Center emergency room, Galesburg.

She was born June 28, 1927, in Bernadotte, the daughter of Delno and Mary (VanFossen) Green.

She married John H. Stambaugh on Feb. 18, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa.

Surviving are her husband of St. Augustine; three sons, Lee (and Anne) Stambaugh of Earl Park, Ind., John A. (and Becky) Stambaugh of St. Augustine and Lloyd A. (and Terry) Stambaugh of St. Augustine; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenneth (and Melvina) Green of Canton and Norman (and Nabuka) Green of Vermont, Ill. She was preceded in death by one son, James H. Stambaugh; one brother, Lloyd Green; and two sisters, Betty Harris and Doris Munson.

She worked for the Prairie City Nursing Home for 19 years. She also worked for Porceline in Macomb and the ordinance plant in Burlington, Iowa.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Shawgo Memorial Home, Astoria, with the Rev. Gary Sheets officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Shawgo Memorial Home, Astoria. Burial will be in Vermont Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
