Elsie M. Brinkmann 1943-2008 Tuesday, January 29, 2008 GALESBURG - Elsie M. Brinkmann, 99, of Galesburg, formerly of Freeport, died at 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008.Born March 3, 1908, in St. Louis, Mo., she was the daughter of Herman and Eva (Kuehn) Blase. She and Henry J. Brinkmann were married in Chicago on Oct. 2, 1943. She worked as a school and legal secretary for many years and enjoyed playing the organ, knitting and crocheting. She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Freeport; she was a friend of Covenant Church in Galesburg during her years in the nursing home. She is survived by her son, George (Judith) Brinkmann of Monmouth; her daughter, Marilyn Brinkmann of Escondido, Calif.; three grandchildren Lisa (Bernard) Slede of Belmont, Calif., Benjamin (Debra) Brinkmann of Byron, Minn., and Anna Brinkmann of Seattle; five great-grandchildren, Paul Brinkmann, Gabriella Brinkmann, Katrina Brinkmann, Alec Slede and Andric Slede. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, George Blase, and her sister, Eugenia Crowley. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 9, 2008, at Walker Mortuary in Freeport, with the Rev. Jean Carmean officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service on Feb. 9, 2008. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. Memorials may be made in her name to Bethany United Church of Christ, Freeport, Covenant Church, Galesburg, or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
