ALEXIS - Carl J. Bruns of Alexis died at 5:25 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at his home.

He was born March 11, 1935, in Pinckneyville, the son of John C. and Regina E. (Martin) Bruns. Carl was raised and educated in Pinckneyville, graduating from Pinckneyville High School in 1953. He moved to Alexis in 1954.

Carl married Betty Stull in Alexis on June 30, 1956, and she survives.

Carl served with the Army from 1958 to 1960 and was stationed in Germany.

Carl farmed near Alexis until he retired from farming in 1980. He then worked for Crop Production Farm Center for the last couple of years. He enjoyed tinkering around the house and visiting with people.

He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Alexis. He also served on the Alexis Village Board for eight years.

His family includes his wife, Betty Bruns of Alexis; three children, Steven C. (Kelley) Bruns of Alexis, Nancy Miller of Alexis and Paul J. (Paula) Bruns of Lone Tree, Colo.; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard W. (Sally) Bruns and Ed J. (Sherry) Bruns; one sister, Betty (Gerald) Smith all of Pinckneyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Herman Bruns; and one sister, Loretta Daven.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Alexis, with the Rev. Michael Monclova celebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Alexis. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, where his family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the V.A.
