WATAGA - Joe Blickem Jr., 62, 535 E. Willard St., died at 5:03 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2008) at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
He was born July 9, 1945, in Shelbyville, the son of Vernon Joe and Wanda Blickem.
Surviving are two daughters, Lorrie (Kevin) Lawson of Henderson, Nev., and Tammie Blickem of Woodhull; his mother, Wanda Blickem of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Samantha and Shanie Lawson, Kylie Blickem and Chloie Rogers; great-grandson, Nathaniel Ray Lawson; two sisters, Mary (Bill) Higgins of Knoxville, and Linda (Jeff) Feely of Wataga; and a special friend, Kris Hendricks of Wataga. Preceded by his father and one brother, Bill Blickem.
He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1963 and later attended Brown's Business and Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg.
He was an operating engineer for I.U.O.E. Local 649 in Peoria for over 30 years, retiring in June 2007. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 649 of Peoria; the Masonic Lodge and the Mohammed Temple Shrine in Peoria. He had served as mayor of Wataga and was presently a village board member. He was a member of the Wataga Fire Department and had formerly served as chief. He loved to travel, collect toy tractors and trucks and did wine making. He enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid Cardinal fan and Green Bay Packer fan.
Funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory, Knoxville. The Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory, Knoxville. Cremation rites will be accorded with inurnment at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.
