ANNAWAN - David L. Johnson, 59, Annawan, formerly of rural Atkinson, passed away Thursday (Jan. 24, 2008) at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. The Rev. Jim Epperson will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Friends may call 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the American Cancer Society or Heartland Hospice.
David was born May 16, 1948, in Geneseo, the son of Kenneth M. and Ruth C. (Wiedenhoeft) Johnson. He was a 1966 graduate of Geneseo High School and attended Western Illinois University. David had been employed as a sales representative at Morton Buildings, Atkinson, for 39 years. He was a member of the Iowa Paint Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. David enjoyed raising and working with his horses, all livestock and nature in general. He valued all of his friendships and appreciated his many loyal customers.
Survivors include his life partner, Linda Collis; two sons and spouses, Troy (Marie) Johnson, Galesburg, and Shawn (Charlotte) Johnson, Rock Island; one granddaughter, Tori Johnson; one sister, Deborah Johnson, Portland, Ore.; and one brother, Dean Johnson, Bettendorf, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
