Thursday, January 24, 2008ALTONA - Rosemary Kay Empson, 56, 305 Lillie Avenue, died at 4:41 p.m. Monday (Jan. 21, 2008) in an automobile accident on Illinois Route 82, 1.7 miles north of Illinois Route 17 in Weller Township, Henry County.
She was born June 22, 1951, in Avon, the daughter of Billy and Norma Swank Mason.
She married Burton Ervin Empson on Sept. 4, 1970, in Avon.
Surviving are two sons, Burton Eric (Tara) Empson of Altona and Kyle Mason (Alicia Thompson) Empson of Knoxville; Patrick Empson of Hawaii, whom she raised as a son; three grandchildren, Nicole Empson, Caleb Empson and Burton Eric Empson Jr.; her mother, Norma Mason of Avon; and sister, Ella Jane (Steve) Anderson of Belton, Mo. She was preceded in death by her father.
She attended Avon schools and graduated from Avon High School. She attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg and received an associate degree in banking.
She worked as a cook at Altona Grade School for 10 to 12 years, and then worked in the Farm Trust Management Department at Wells Fargo Bank in Galesburg.
She became a member of United Church of Altona in April 1975 where she was a member of the administrative board, finance committee, treasurer, United Methodist Women, Sunday school teacher and the Women of the World Bible Study Group.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at United Church of Altona in Altona, with the Rev. Judy Vidakovich officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the church. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, rural Altona. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory, Oneida, is in charge of arrangements.
