William S. 'Bill' Bronson

CHILLICOTHE - William S. "Bill" Bronson, 82, Chillicothe, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 20, 2008) at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Born June 21, 1925, in Detroit, the son of Gerald N. and LaReign I. (Hastings) Bronson. He married Josephine A. Koehnemann in Champaign, on Oct. 2, 1944. He married Sandra A Hamrick on July 16, 1983, in Lacon. She survives.

He also is survived by five daughters and four sons, Teresa A. Bronson of Redmond, Wash., Susan B. Dutell of Galesburg, Mary A. Ippolito of Seattle, Jeffrey C. (and Claire) Bronson of Vashon, Wash., Sara J. Bronson of San Francisco, Molly B. Bronson of Seattle, John W. (and Julia) Bronson of Redmond, Wash., Peter J. Bronson of Lake Stevens, Wash., and Paul A. Bronson of Tukwila, Wash.; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" (and Robert) Meyer of Huntington Beach, Calif.; five grandsons; three granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, his mother and one son, Robert T. "Tom" Bronson.

He served as a signalman in the Navy during WW II and was at Omaha Beach during the Normandy invasion. After the war he received a degree in mortuary science from Wayne State University, serving as a mortician until moving to Champaign. He opened and operated Bronson Oil Company in 1956 in Galesburg until the late 1970s. He moved to Panama City, Fla., to own and operate a furniture business where he met his current wife. He returned to the Chillicothe area in the early 1980s, again working in the oil business. He operated Bronson Oil Company until his death.

He was of Catholic faith.

Cremation has been accorded. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home, Chillicothe.

Memorials may be made to Chillicothe Rescue 33.
