Clyde M. Lind
Tuesday, January 22, 2008GALVA - Clyde M. Lind, 90, of Galva, died at 5:11 a.m. Friday (Jan. 18, 2008) at home.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery, with military rites by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church or Galva American Legion.
Clyde was born June 19, 1917, in Kewanee, the son of Frank E. and Daisy M. (Brent) Lind. He married Irma I. Hinderliter on Dec. 15, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death April 19, 2004. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister and a brother, Francis. He is survived by one son, Michael (Teresa) Lind of Galva; one daughter, Sandra (Phillip) Theobold of Peoria; five grandchildren, Susan Stairwalt, Audra Lind-Holmes and Stacey, Jackie and Brent Lind; and two great-grandchildren, Anthony Francis and Rhonnie Stairwalt.
Clyde was a 1935 graduate of Galva High Schoo,l where he was an outstanding football, basketball and track athlete. He had served in the Army during WWII and the Korean War. When stationed in Germany during WWII and during the Korean War, he served at P.O.W. camps. He was a chief warrant officer for 30 years with the National Guard at Armories in Galva, Kewanee, Chicago and Rock Island Arsenal. He then worked doing custodial work for the state of Illinois until he was 74. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hagburg-Hamlin American Legion and Galva Senior Citizens Center, where he enjoyed playing cards. He enjoyed bowling and fishing and was a die-hard Cubs fan.
