Alan N. Westerfield 1933-2008 Monday, January 21, 2008 KNOXVILLE - Alan N. Westerfield, 74, 611 East Newman St., died at 7:17 p.m. Friday (Jan. 18, 2008) at his residence in Knoxville.He was born Sept. 19, 1933, in Galesburg, the son of Ralph E. and Phyllis T. Johnson Westerfield. He married Margie Howard on Aug. 10,1956, in Abingdon. Then he married Mary Ziegler Naslund on Sept. 25, 1980, in Macomb. She preceded him in death Sept. 25, 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Ellen K. Thomas of Galesburg and Beth (Eddie) Magee of Knoxville; one son, Kent (Marie) Westerfield of Sand Springs, Okla.; one stepdaughter, Terri S. Israel of Galesburg; two stepsons, Kenny (Donna) Naslund of Altona and Lester Naslund of Knoxville; nine grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra (Paul) Hempel of Long Beach, Calif., and Brenda (Don) Sanders of Pekin; and three brothers, Frank (Rosalie) Westerfield of Morton, David (Masel) Westerfield of Hillsboro, Ore., and Jack (Linda) Westerfield of Eatonville, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was raised and educated in Knoxville, graduating from Knoxville High School in 1952. He worked 12 years for Swift Co. Wholesale Meats then worked for the Galesburg Post Office, retiring in 1992. He served in the Marine Corps from 1952 to 1955 and was honorably discharged Sept. 22, 1960. He was a member of Harry Philblad American Legion Post 749 of Knoxville. He was of Presbyterian faith. He was an avid fisherman, woodworker and collector. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, in Knoxville Cemetery, with the Rev. Dan Doty officiating. There will be no visitation. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to First United Presbyterian Church in Knoxville.
