Woodhull - The Clover Library is putting the spotlight on health in February. The library will sponsor a nutrition session with Chris Willis, nutritionist from OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 5 in the library community room. The session, offered free to the public, is funded through the "Learn about your Health and Diet at the Library" grant.
Library Director Rene Bramlett also ordered several books relating to health and diet, funded by the $3,000 grant; the books are now available for checkout.
Library clerk Sylvia Petrovich resigned effective Dec. 31, after having worked at the library the past six years.
"I appreciate the opportunity I have had to be part of the library staff," she said in her letter to the board. "We have a great library here; it is an asset to our community."
Ann Johnson of Woodhull has been hired as a library clerk.
The board discussed the new online system for the Resource Sharing Alliance and, on Bramlett's recommendation, approved the funding and training for the system, Sirsi Unicorn automated circulation.
The new system will require the director to attend meetings and training for the Online Programming for All Libraries and be an annual cost to the library of about $1,500.
"I think this is the way to go," Bramlett said.
Bramlett reported the staff has been processing and doing inventory and a used book sale is under way at the library. Books are 10 cents and used magazines are free.
Three petitions for library trustee have been taken out for the April election, including incumbents Chuck Goff, Carol Nichols and new candidate Carol VandeWalle.
Treasurer Kim DeSutter provided information relating to the Pioneer Hi-Bred International petition to have its assessed value reduced by $3,183,469.
The company's 2006 assessed value is $5,683,291.
The reduction, if approved, would have a significant effect on the library's tax income.
Chief Henry County Assessor Lindi Kernan informed the library board it can join the county in defending the appeal.
The next regular meeting for the board is at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 in the library community room.
