Violet G. Hollins
Thursday, January 17, 2008GALESBURG - Violet Grace Hollins, 85, 1655 E. Main St., was called to her heavenly home at 10:35 a.m. Monday (Jan. 14, 2008) at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
Violet Hollins was born to the union of William Johnson and Rose Ann Paul on July 2, 1922, in Galesburg.
She is survived by two children, Patricia M. (Morris) Coleman, Galesburg; and Donald E. (Juanita) Wright, Cedar Falls, Iowa; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Hollins; her parents, William Johnson and Rose Ann Paul; one sister, Florence Lucille Billings; and one stepsister, Pauline Smith.
Violet attended Churchill Junior High School and attended Galesburg High School. In 1939, she married Edward Wright of Alton and from that union there were two children, Donald Wright and Patricia Coleman. She lived in Waterloo, Iowa, for 35 years then moved back to Galesburg. She worked at the Galesburg Research Hospital as an Aide 3 (an LPN equivalent). She was married to Mr. Edwin Hollins for 35 years. She became a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church in Waterloo, Iowa, where she served on the mother's board and was a mother of the church. While living in Waterloo, she worked a couple of years at the local hospital and for Sears and Roebuck. She retired from Sears in 1984. Violet was a member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church for 12 years. She served on the mother's board and was a mother of the church.
Funeral will be at noon Monday at Bethesda Baptist Church. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Bethesda Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Brown, pastor of Bethesda Church, will officiate. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Fletcher and McDougald Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
