WorkNet seminar Jan. 24 in Galesburg

GALESBURG - Representatives from Illinois WorkNet will present workshops in Galesburg, Macomb and Quincy this month about the new web-service to be launched statewide this year.

WorkNet is an online resource that provides career, education, and employment information at no cost to all Illinois residents.

With workNet, job-seekers can search for jobs, find the training program for the type of job they want, and find information about funding for school. WorkNet is also a resource for Illinois businesses. Businesses can connect with representatives that will match them with qualified people to help them grow their businesses. WorkNet can also help businesses connect to programs which offer funds for training.

The Illinois WorkNet workshops are planned for the following dates and times:

- Galesburg, 10 a.m. to noon, Jan. 24, at the Educational Technology Center, 335 E. Main St.

- Macomb, 10 a.m. to noon, Jan. 26, Western Illinois Business and Technology Center, 510 N. Pearl St.

- Quincy, 1 to 3 p.m., Jan. 18, Oakley Lindsay Civic Center, 300 Civic Center Plaza.

GALESBURG - Dan Allen has joined the staff at Bob Lindsay Honda Toyota.

Allen joins the dealership as assistant service manager. He has 13 years' experience in service advising and management, and is certified in GM fixed operations management.

GALESBURG - Cathy Ackman was selected as the November 2005 Employee of the Month at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Ackman works in the pharmacy and has worked at OSF St. Mary Medical Center for 3 1/2 years.

As Employee of the Month, Ackman has use of a special parking space, receives a monetary gift and is eligible for selection of the Employee of the Year.

MONMOUTH - A free webcast is set for Jan. 18 that could help small business owners reduce their energy costs.

The webcast is a service of the Small Business Smart Energy Program, which is directed by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and supported by the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center.

Broadcast live via the Internet from the WILL studios on the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign campus, the webcast will feature an expert panel of architects, engineers and building contractors who will discuss sustainable building and energy efficiency design practices that can help small businesses and practitioners in Illinois and Missouri save energy and money.

There will also be opportunity for questions from viewers with real-time responses.

The webcast will be broadcast live from 10 a.m. to noon.
