GALESBURG - Florence M. Jacobs, 87, formerly of 952 Arnold St., died at 7:24 p.m. Friday (Jan. 11, 2008) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born May 17, 1920, in Fairview, the daughter of Vernon and Ina May Day Senders. She married Francis M. Jacobs on May 5, 1945, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1997.

She is survived by a son, James V. (and Hattie) Jacobs, Galesburg; three daughters: Susan C. (and Ray) Tedrow, Beech Grove, Ind., Sharon C. (and John) Biermann, East Moline, and Sandra C. (and Gary) Ellenberg, Galesburg; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Jacobs, Galesburg; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; four sisters, Alice Welch, Monmouth, Eva Hughes, Mankato, Minn., Anna Ruth Riley, Lewistown, and Frances Pounds, Helena, Mont.; and a sister-in-law, Doris Senders. She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard M. Jacobs on Jan. 4, 2005, two brothers, and a sister.

Florence operated a telephone answering service from her home and was a seamstress. She retired from the former Galesburg State Research Hospital after nine years of service. Following retirement, she was an assistant in the Ellenberg Child Daycare for 10 years.

She attended Fulton and McDonough county schools. She was a member of First Church of God and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union. Florence also designed and applied for a patent for a humane restraint for hospital patients.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The family will lead the service. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Rio Baptist Cemetery, south of Rio.
