Saturday, January 12, 2008GALESBURG - Helen Freda Van Dusen, 91, 1250 W. Carl Sandburg Drive, formerly of Yates City, died at 1:45 a.m. Friday (Jan. 11, 2008) at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg.
She was born Oct. 20, 1916, in Williamsfield, the daughter of Patrick and Addie Waller Gallagher.
She married Harley G. Cadwell on May 18, 1935, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1970. She married Clinton Van Dusen on Dec. 29, 1972, in Knoxville. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1990.
Surviving are three daughters, Inez S. (Dale) Hedberg of Canton, Mo., Irma Spilman of Galesburg, and Donna J. (Kent) Lockhart of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; son, Dean E. (Naomi) Cadwell of Houston; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded by her parents; husbands; two sons, Waverly James Cadwell and Larry Glen Cadwell; one sister, Nellie Jones; and four brothers, Dana Gallagher, John Gallagher, Oral Gallagher and Kenna Gallagher.
She attended Elmwood Grade School and graduated from Elmwood High School.
She was a homemaker and worked at the Knox Laundry in Galesburg, and later as a cook at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville. She moved to Quincy in 1998 and back to Galesburg in 2002. She was baptized in the Christian faith. She was a 74-year member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville. The Rev. Marilyn Anell will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville. Burial will be in Williamsfield Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Senior Ministry at First United Methodist Church in Galesburg.
