Joyce Elaine Swanson
Thursday, January 10, 2008GALESBURG - Joyce Elaine Swanson, 80, 937 Willard St., died at 11:12 a.m. Monday (Jan. 7, 2008) at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Chicago, the daughter of Paul and Mabel Wheeler Peterson.
She married Earl James. She later marred Norman C. Swanson in 1959 in Galesburg. He survives of Galesburg.
Also surviving are four sons, Michael Swanson of Iowa, Darrell Swanson of Galesburg, Rodney Swanson of Peoria and Terry James of Knoxville; two stepdaughters, Linda of Quincy and Teresa of Pontiac; a stepson, Kenneth Swanson of Galesburg; several grandchildren; and a half-sister, Mavis of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Joyce Ann James; one half sister, Delores; and one half-brother, John Peterson.
She was raised and educated in Macomb, graduating from Macomb High School.
She was a homemaker. She worked as a charge aide for Galesburg Research Hospital for 18 years.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, with Chaplain Manuel Rojas officiating. There will be no visitation. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.
